Help us fundraise for our down payment and turn the Fishbowl into a permanent housing co-op! We need to raise $120,000 for a down payment, in order to secure a low enough mortgage to keep rents low for the foreseeable future. No amount is too small. Here’s how you can pitch in.
How we’re going to do it
- 10% ($12,000): individual donations. No amount is too small to donate! We’ll be raising these funds via this page, and through fundraising events. If for some reason we are unable to buy the house, we will donate these funds to Community Rebuilds.
- 50% ($60,000): community member loans. If you’re a community member or business with some cash to spare, you can support us with a loan of $5,000+. For now, we’re taking loan pledges, and we won’t ask for the money until we’re ready to make an offer. We’ll pay these loans back alongside our mortgage, and can offer rates similar to a CD, with higher rates for longer-term loans and lower rates for quicker payback times. Email us at hello@fishbowlcollective.org (ask for Emily) to learn more.
- 40% ($48,000): grants. We’re applying to all kinds of local, state and federal grant programs aimed at affordable and cooperative housing. If you’re a grant writer or in the nonprofit/cooperative housing field and want to offer advice or volunteer your time, please get in touch!
- In-kind donations of skills and time. If you’re excited about our idea and want to help out, or you’re interested in joining our board, shoot us an email!
